Live Long and Prosper!

Can you believe this school year is already over? It literally seems just a few weeks ago that we were spinning away on the Y-Intersection and eating poutine and now we’re all cooped up in the likes of Schulich, McLennan and Redpath. LIFE, DOE. I’ll keep this update short and sweet since exams are next week (I have 3 next week lol), so here we go!

1. DODGEBALL: Unbelievable display of athleticism and healthy competition! Huge thanks to all who participated—Players, referees, and spectators! Special thanks to Smoke’s Poutinerie and Gert’s for hooking us up with some SWEET prizes, and big ups to the lovely RedBull Wings Girls for coming out and giving us some much needed RedBull! We raised over $400! WELL DONE!
2. NEW EXEC: We’ve got a fantastic bunch of new executives and reps who are now part of the 2013-2014 Right To Play fam. Get stoked to meet them in the coming academic year!
3. OLD EXEC: We say goodbye to these beauties who will be leaving us after this year:

  • Neelum Wadekar, VP Communications

Welcome to McGill Students for Right To Play!

Wow, that was summer, eh? To those of you who have left the organization, thank you for your support either on the executive or club levels and to those joining us for the first time; welcome!

For those who do not know, Right To Play is a non-profit, charitable organization that brings relief and support to developing communities all over the world – from Canada’s North to South America, Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. Through various fundraising endeavors on campus, we bring structure and play to those who are deprived of it. As stated by the United Nations, every child has the basic human right to play.

We are very excited to announce that we currently have two executive members representing McGill Students for Right To Play in Kigali, Rwanda at the (Global Youth Summit. This is an unprecedented and unique event. Fourth year Co-President Amy Harrington of West Vancouver, B.C. and Andrew Jung, our second year, VP Membership from Calgary, Alberta will return with a wealth of knowledge and experience that we will be able to parlay into a positive outcome for the local Montreal community and McGill Students for Right To Play. Be sure to stay updated to hear their first hand testimonials.

We will be hosting a table during Discover McGill, an event during Orientation Week to introduce first-year McGill Students to many of the organizations and social infrastructure to facilitate involvement – working together with like-minded peers pushing towards a common goal. We understand that there is always a flurry of activity during the first weeks of the new academic year, but be sure to keep an eye and ear out for tabling at SSMU Activity Night and the Right To Play Spin-A-Thon!

Always remember, we provide the means to your involvement. We encourage that members looking to become more integrated be proactive with their efforts for McGill Students for Right To Play. We hope to become the premier charitable organization at McGill University, becoming synonymous with a fun, active and dynamic charity that people will on the minds of the charitable masses around campus.
